Crafted in 9 carat yellow gold (375) with the hallmark "BCI" – presumably a classic British piece from the 1970s to early 1980s. The design with an oval opal cabochon in a bezel setting and two diamonds in a star setting is known as Gypsy Setting or Trilogy Signet – an extremely popular style in Great Britain between 1960 and 1985.
Who might have worn it
We discovered this ring at an auction. Therefore, we don't know exactly where this ring comes from – but we love to imagine its story:
A young woman in London or Manchester in the late 70s, who wanted her first proper gold ring as a statement – opal instead of diamond, wide instead of delicate. Perhaps a gift for her 21st birthday or her first permanent job. Opal was considered the stone of the independent at that time.
