This solitaire ring is made of 585 gold (14 carat) with a German or Austrian master's mark. It likely dates from the 1930s to 1950s.
The central diamond has an old cut – this was the predecessor of today's brilliant cut. These old diamonds do not sparkle as coolly as modern brilliants, but with a warm and deep glow, almost like candlelight.
The openwork band with its small floral ornaments is particularly beautiful. This delicate craftsmanship was typical of the Belle Époque around 1900 – and was revived as a stylistic quotation in the 1950s. The solitaire itself sits elevated in a classic claw setting.
